1. Download Raspberry Pi Debian OS from https://raspi.debian.net/tested-images/
- IMPORTANT: ensure the Release you choose has a corresponding release at https://download.docker.com/linux/debian/dists/ or else you'll get stuck while installing Docker
- copy to TinyCore USB drive
2. Flash the image to the microSD card
- Boot into TinyCore
- Use Joe's Window Manager
- open a terminal
- run `xzcat 20210408_raspi_3_bullseye.xz | dd of=/dev/sdd bs=64k conv=fsync` where /dev/sdd is the microSD card
3. Insert the microSD card into the Pi3 and boot (with keyboard and HDMI connected to use the terminal)
- login as root with no password
- run `passwd` to change the root password
- run `hostnamectl set-hostname homeassistant.local`
- run `apt-get update` to update the software package repository
- run `install ssh-server` if not already installed
- using nano or vi, modify the following in /etc/ssh/sshd_config
- Uncomment the following
- AuthorizedKeysFile
- PubkeyAuthentication
- PermitRootLogin yes # temporarily change to yes
- run `service ssh restart`
- from a remote PC, run `ssh root@<raspi-device's IP>`
- assuming you've set up an SSH key on your remote PC, copy your ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub contents to /root/.ssh/authorized_keys on the raspi-device
- modify /etc/sshd_config on the raspi-device to `PermitRootLogin prohibit-password`
- run `service ssh restart` and you should now be able to login from the remote PC using SSH key auth and can disconnect HDMI
4. Install Supervised Home Assistant by following https://github.com/home-assistant/supervised-installer
5. Install HACS from https://hacs.xyz/docs/setup/download/
- run `apt-get install unzip`
- run `python3 -m pip install requests` (for hubspace https://github.com/jdeath/Hubspace-Homeassistant)
